Summer Placements 2005

Yours truly had become too lazy to write blogs. Most of my time is spent on perusing and analyzing other people's blogs. But the issue that really woke me up from my slumber was the whirlwind tour de force that was Summer Placements 2005. The entire batch of 160 people was placed in 4 days flat which is a marked improvement from what happened last year.
Hearty congratulations to the Senior Placecomm members who had missed classes and tests and quizzes and dedicated their entire efforts towards the placment season......Seriously hope this tempo and trend continues for our Final Placements in February 2006.......

Independence Day

I can never get over this feeling of having a ball of lump in my throat whenever ID day arrives. Usually, in the past, this much needed holiday in MBA life is spent snoring away to glory. So, this time i made a resolve to attend this year's Independence day. I had a small indian flag pinned on my shirt for the entire day....pretty much summed the feelings for the day.....a surge of patriotism which i hope is not brief.
This weekend, however, classes were going on at a marathon rate of 7 hours or even 10 hours for a particular course.We finished our Negotiations and Conflict Resolution in 3 days flat. Yours tru;y bunked the last session of the class and went off to the city with Arit and Mriganka to watch "Mangal Pandey:The Rising"...very approriate for the day. However, I was pretty much disappointed with the movie. British officers speaking Hindi was really horrible and if you managed to ignore the backdrop of the movie(India's first war of independence), this movie was almost like a badly scripted,badly researched B grade movie. The camarederie portrayed between Aamir Khan and Toby Stephens ( who starred as the villain "Die Another Day") seems a little hard to believe and while discussing the Mutiny, Aamir Khan and the other guys pore over a map which is written in English!!!
There is still a huge debate going on whether Mangal Pandey should be accorded the glory which this film portrays......
Anyway, above are I day snaps taken in class.....

PINK FLOYD REUNITED

I heard this sensational news when i was packing my bags way back in june to return to campus.Needless to say, i was very excited and thrilled........after all my fav band were reforming after more than 20 years. You can check out www.brain-damage.co.uk for further updates.Through one of the links provided in this site, i was able to download the videos. Pink Floyd hit the stage right at the dot of 11pm on 2nd July for the Live 8 concert organised by their old friend Sir Bob Geldof who starred as Pink in the wall movie.They were no introductions.(none needed...i think)
All the four members seemed a bit uptight. Maybe they were all taken in by the occasion. Anyway it lasted for only one song though Roger Waters had a wide grin on his face throughout the concert. The set list was as follows.
1.Breathe
2. Money
3.Wish you were here
4.Comfortably Numb
Breathe kicked off with Roger on bass and David on slide guitar supported by Tim Renwick and Jon Carin(on keyboards) but they were rather kept in the background(very approriate). The band added the "Breathe reprise" with a powerful bridge in between.
Money was kept short and compact but during the whole song as well as the concert, Roger was very animate,raising his hans high and lip-syncing the lyrics with David.
During the guitar intro of "Wish you were here", Roger surprised everyone and the band by saying" Actually,it is quite emotional. Standing up here with these three guys after all these years. Standing up to be counted with you. Anyway we are doing this for everyone who is not here but particularly, of course for Syd". There was a nod of solemn agreement from Richard Wright. Vocal duties were shared by Dave and Roger who added his own litle version. It was pleasant to hear dave crooning away his"twa na na twa na na....."
And what can you say about "Comfortably Numb". It was surreal and slightly eerie to hear both dave and roger on this song.dave belted out one of his memorable solos that brought the 200,000 crowd in Hyde park to its feet. And suddenly it was all over.Instruments were put down and roger brought the whole band together for a final salute to the crowd....all four of them hand in hand......20 years of bickering, hate and spite was washed in 25 minutes of pure brilliance that is Pink Floyd. Roger allowing Dave to sing most of the songs maybe indicated reconciliation on Roger's part? We may never know..........

post mid term

Till now, this has got to be the shortest midterm so far for me in IIMK....finished the whole damn thing in two days flat. The first was Strategic Management and that particular course was finished in one blitzkrieg of a month and the only strategy we learned was how to juggle with words when talking "global". We learned the nuances of using words like"Domestic Consolidation","Strategic Reorientation" and so forth which could easily leave the laymen slightly dazed.
The 2nd exam was HRD systems and something strange happened there....the case was given but the follow up questions were mysteriosly missing and this provided everybody with a chance to fire their creative guns and come up with some really funny but impossible suggestive solutions. Again i thank my lucky stars that i did not take up any Fin subject...the wounded expression on the faces of those brave souls who had taken FIS, MBFS says it all.....
